The game engine currently scales to around a minimum of 360 pixel width screen size.

That's when you have your phone held in portrait.

PS. If you have played a game already, you might need to do a forced reload of the page.

Usually SHIFT + f5 in your browser.

Some browsers can be a bit strict with how audio gets played now. Particularly Firefox that did not like playing the opening audio.

To comply with this, I added a sound on/off selection before you play or resume a game. It's just a quick click of an icon.

Hopefully it translates well to green being sound on and red being sound off.

There was a problem with the auto saving of games which I have now fixed.  O0

Resuming games should now be working as expected.

The database was cleared of old saved games in the process.

Hello to new visitors!

We went live today and I have been spreading the word around my haunts, old and new.

Everything is considered Beta at this time, so please bear with us if something is not working right.

Thanks :)

Once a player finishes with character creation and are onto the first page of the game, the engine will automatically save their progress on each page.

There is only one saved game slot per game that the player is involved with. From the Games page and their My Games page the player will be able to Resume a game from where they last left off. They can also elect to start the game fresh by choosing Play.

Please note, that saved games only work for registered and logged in members.
Designer Documentation / Designer - Settings
« Last post by Freddy on September 07, 2021, 09:22:51 AM »
The Settings tab in the designer has a few, you've guessed it, settings for the game.

Game Name: The name that will be used for your game on site and in game. Editable.

Status: Can be Development, Beta or Published. Gamebooks in development status will be hidden from the main site, private to you, while you are working on your game. Beta status will show your game on site and people will be able to play your game to test it, it will have a Beta graphic to indicate this. And Published status is when you are all done and the game is released. You can continue to edit your game under any status.

Start: The page where you want your game to begin. After the player has gone through the introduction and character creation this is where they will begin.

Cap Attributes: If you want attributes to not go over their starting values then tick this box. Otherwise unticked, then attributes can go beyond the character's starting values.

Cap Skills: Same as attributes. Skills can be improved so it probably makes most sense to leave the cap off on skills. It's all up to you and your gamebook.

Currency: I have set up a few basic currencies to be used in games. Coins are the base currency, all other currencies are based on the coin cost.

Coins: The base currency - everything in game will be show in coins 1:1
Credits: Costs will be shown in Credits and are 1:1 with Coins
£sd: Old money - one penny (d) is equal to one coin. Pounds and Shillings are calculated appropriately.
£p: New money - one penny (p) is equal to one coin. 100 pennies is equal to £1 (one Pound).
$c: Dollars - one cent (c) is equal to one coin. 100 cents is equal to $1 (one Dollar).
gs: Gold & Silver - one silver (s) is equal to one coin. 100 silver is equal to 1 Gold.

So, when you want to apply a cost to a Thing you need to use the base currency coins. This currency selection option will simply convert the cost from coins into whatever currency you choose to display in the game. The tricky one is £sd!

Opening Music: Accepts a URL to your own external audio MP3 file. Please abide by copyright laws. The music will be played over the start of the game and character creation. It will then be faded out (if not already finished) when they reach the first page of the game.

Delete Game: Trigger a pop up that can be used to specify and delete this game.

Dice: You can change the colour of the dice used in your game with the sliders provided.
Designer Documentation / Designer - Weapon Creation

You can use the form at the top of the designer to make a weapon - just select the Thing option, type in your name and then click Add - remember to select a category first if needed, otherwise it will be placed in the uncategorised part.

Here I have made a Silver Dagger and placed it in my Weapons category. I have also given a brief description. This description is used on the game's inventory page. So that when a player clicks on it (in their inventory) it will show this piece of text. You can also add images in the editor too, which will also be shown from the player's inventory.

There are quite a few settings for Things. In this case we are setting up an Object/Weapon which is the default option upon creating a Thing.

Type: The type of game item. Cannot be changed, used internally.

Name: The name of this Thing (weapon in this case), used in the editor and in the game. This can be edited.

Category: The category in the tree view.

Object/Weapon, Ammunition, Appendage, Consumable: Sub types of Thing - in this case we are interested in Object/Weapon.

Does Damage: A dice dropdown - this is the dice roll that generates damage from this weapon.

Skill Bonus With: Any skill that will have a beneficial effect on the damage from the dice roll. So for example a character (player) could have a skill for Advanced Blade Use - this will enhance any damage made on a percentage basis. See also: Combat Weapons.

Combat Usage: Sets the weapon type to Ranged or Close or both.

Required By: Being able to use the weapon may be dependant on also possessing some other item.

Group: Sets if this is in a special group of weapons. Classic example - Silver Weapons will deal more damage to Werewolves. See Groups.

Max in Inventory: How many of this weapon can be carried at one time by the player.

On Use Turn To: When an object/weapon can be used it will be indicated in the player's inventory. This setting simply directs the player to a specific page when the player uses the item/weapon. Eg: a magical blade that transports you to a hidden glade.

Usable By: Don't forget to tick this for each character that can use this weapon.

Outset Inventory: Sets the quantity of this object/weapon that the character (player) has at the beginning of the game. Defaults to 0.

Coin Cost: During the game the player will be able to take certain items - this setting simply sets out any cost involved. Set this to 0 (zero) to make them freely available . The coin cost in the game currency is show beside the setting.

Delete: Tick the box, then click Delete to remove this Thing from the game.

Referring back to the editor tab.

Optionally you can add a description and image for the NPC that will be shown during combat.
